JEATH War Museum
The JEATH War Museum was created by the monks of Wat Chaichumphon in Kanchanaburi as a memorial to the prisoners of war who built the Thailand-Burma railway. Its name is an acronym of the nations most involved: Japan, England, America and Australia, Thailand and Holland.
The museum takes the form of a long bamboo and attap hut, reconstructed to the pattern of the huts the prisoners lived in, with sleeping platforms down each side. Photographs, drawings made by prisoners, tools, newspaper cuttings and personal accounts are displayed along its length. The presentation is plain and hand-made, which is part of its effect.
It sits at the end of the main road by the Mae Klong river, near the point where it meets the Khwae Noi.
