The Elephant shaped island is easier to reach than you might think. Located in Trat province, Koh Chang offers many ways of transportation to get you to Laem Ngop, the pier in Trat where the ferries go to Koh Chang are located. Now choosing the best way to get there depends on your budget and preference for bus, minibus, or plane.  The closest airport is in Trat, which has a shuttle that can take you straight to the pier.

Buses are a sensible option when it comes to saving money. Trat has a big bus terminal where you can arrive from Bangkok or other cities in Thailand, also Trat bus station provides buses that will take you to the ferry pier with departures from 6:00 to 18:00.

For those travelers who are looking for a place to relax and enjoy the waves, White Sand Beach and Long Beach are the perfect settings but for a lively atmosphere, Lonely Beach is ideal for parties and cheap prices making it popular among backpackers. For gorgeous beaches, the best option is a day tour around the nearby islands to Koh Chang. 

Koh Chang Waterfalls

Due to its wide range of forest and jungles, Koh Chang possesses many outstanding waterfalls that are more than a pleasant sight. Starting with the famous Klong Plu Waterfall, this cascade is around 400 meters and you can double the adventure and go there by bike. A few kilometers from Klong Plu lies Thanmayon Waterfall which first owned its popularity when King Rama V visited it. Both falls are located in the National Park, on the east coast, and the fee is 200 Baht for adults and 100 Baht for kids.

The main activity to do in Thailand is scuba diving, so don’t miss the opportunity to learn to dive in Koh Chang. There are so many dive schools but PADI course is excellent for kids or beginners, all the courses include the equipment, food, transportation and a certificate. The island hosts the best dive sites in Thailand like Koh Kra, Koh Rang, Koh Thian among others, where you can discover exotic fishes such as clownfish, stingrays and even watch the whale sharks.

On your visit to Koh Chang, you should take a ride to the south of the island and contemplate the vibrant fishing villages. The colorful fishing boats dock on the pier and the little houses made of wood give you a glance of the lifestyle of Koh Chang inhabitants. Bang Bao Bay is the main fishing village, once you get here don’t miss the chance to try their fresh seafood, but for a restaurant experience, reach Salakphet village in the south-east.
