Kantang Railway Station, Trang

Kantang station is the end of the western branch of Thailand's southern railway, on the Trang river a short distance from the sea. The line was built to carry goods to the port here, and the station opened in 1913 - which makes it the westernmost and southernmost terminus in the country.

The building is the reason to visit: a single-storey timber structure in mustard and brown, with a steep tiled roof and a long platform canopy, kept in its original form and registered as a historic building. The interior retains its wooden ticket window and benches, and the trains still terminate here.

Kantang town around it was a significant port in the early twentieth century, and the first rubber tree planted in Thailand stands nearby.
