Kuden Mansion, Satun National Museum

Kuden Mansion in Satun town was built in 1902 as the residence of the provincial governor, in a European colonial style with Thai and Malay detail - a reflection of Satun's position on the border and its long Malay history.

It was intended to host a visit by King Rama V that in the end did not happen. The building now houses the Satun National Museum, with rooms restored to period and displays on local Malay-Muslim life, dress and customs.

Satun is the gateway to Tarutao and Koh Lipe, and most travellers pass through Pak Bara without stopping in the town. The museum is worth the detour if you have a few hours.
