Maya Bay is a small bay on the uninhabited island of Phi Phi Leh, enclosed on three sides by limestone walls over a hundred metres high. It became internationally known after the film The Beach was shot there in 1999, and the crowds that followed - up to five thousand people a day - destroyed most of its coral.
The bay was closed to visitors in 2018 and reopened in 2022 under strict limits. Boats no longer enter the bay at all: they moor at Loh Samah on the far side and visitors walk through on a boardwalk. Numbers and visiting hours are capped, and swimming in the bay is not allowed.
It is reached only on a day trip from Phi Phi Don, Krabi or Phuket, and the national park closes it periodically for reef recovery. Check it is open before booking a trip that promises it.

Attraction Points
- Phi Phi Viewpoint, Koh Phi Phi Don — The hill above Tonsai, looking down on the twin bays and the sandbar that joins the two halves of the island.
- Bamboo Island (Koh Phai) — A small flat island north-east of Phi Phi ringed by white sand and shallow reef.
- Laem Tong Beach, Koh Phi Phi Don — The quiet beach at the island's northern tip, reached only by boat, with a sea gypsy village at one end.
- Loh Dalum Bay, Koh Phi Phi Don — The crescent bay on the northern side of the isthmus, shallow, sheltered and the island's party beach at night.
- Long Beach (Hat Yao), Koh Phi Phi Don — The best swimming beach on Phi Phi Don, south-east of Tonsai, with reef straight off the sand.
- Monkey Beach, Koh Phi Phi Don — A small beach on Phi Phi Don's south-west shore with a resident troop of long-tailed macaques.
