What changed for travel to Thailand from 1 October 2022
Announcement from Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand about travelling to Thailand: - Passengers will no longer be required to present COVID-19 related documents to enter Thailand, starting from October 1, 2022.
In short, the entry paperwork that applied during the pandemic no longer forms part of the arrival process on that date. Travellers arriving in Thailand from 1 October 2022 are handled under standard immigration rules.
Who this affects
The announcement applies to passengers entering Thailand, regardless of the airport, land border or seaport used for arrival. It covers both visitors and returning residents.
It does not change the usual entry requirements every traveller still needs to meet, such as holding a valid passport and, where applicable, the correct visa for the purpose and length of your stay. Check your own nationality's visa rules with an official Thai source before you travel.
What it means in practice
- No COVID-19 related documents are requested at entry from 1 October 2022.
- Standard passport and visa checks continue to apply as normal.
- Airlines, ferry operators and transport providers may still set their own conditions of carriage, so read the terms shown at booking.
- Rules can be updated at any time. Confirm the current position with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand or your nearest Thai embassy or consulate close to your departure date.
Planning onward travel inside Thailand

- Allow a comfortable buffer between your flight landing and your first ferry, bus or transfer departure, in case of delays at immigration or baggage reclaim.
- Where a journey combines several legs, book them together so the connection is planned as one trip.
- Have your booking confirmation ready on your phone or printed, along with the passport details used at the time of booking.
- Read the cancellation and amendment conditions shown for your chosen operator before paying, as these differ between services.
