Bang Niang is the next village north along the Khao Lak coast, separated from Nang Thong by a headland and a lagoon. Its beach is wider and emptier than the main strip, with the same coarse pale sand and a long shallow shelf at low tide.
The village is best known for its market, the largest in Khao Lak, which sets up several times a week on the road behind the beach and runs to food stalls, clothing and household goods - used by residents rather than staged for visitors. Bang Niang is also where the tsunami memorials cluster, including the police boat left inland from here.
It is walkable from Nang Thong along the beach at low tide and a few minutes by road otherwise.
