Koh Nang Yuan, Koh Tao
Koh Nang Yuan lies a short boat ride off Koh Tao's north-west shore: three small granite islands linked by a pale sandbar that runs between them and is walkable when the tide allows. The view down onto it from the island's rocky viewpoint is the image most people have seen of Koh Tao before they arrive.
The water either side of the sandbar is shallow and clear, and the snorkelling immediately off the beach is among the easiest on the island - coral and reef fish start within a few metres of the sand. Boats run frequently from Mae Haad and Sairee.
Two rules catch visitors out and are enforced at the pier: the island charges a landing fee, and single-use plastic bottles are not allowed ashore and will be taken from you on arrival. Bring a refillable bottle.
