Railay East, Krabi
Railay East faces back toward the mainland across a shallow bay lined with mangroves. It is not a swimming beach - the water retreats a long way and leaves mud flats - and it is all the better understood as the peninsula's working side.
The climbing shops, the cheaper guesthouses, most of the bars and the restaurants that locals eat in are here, along with the walkway to Phra Nang. Railay is one of the world's best-known sport climbing destinations and this is where the schools operate from; the walls above the path are busy with ropes from early morning.
Longtails from Krabi town and Ao Nam Mao land on this side. Railay West and its swimming are five minutes' walk across the flat.

Attraction Points
- Railay West Beach, Krabi — The wide white beach on the peninsula's western side, closed at both ends by limestone walls.
- Diamond Cave (Tham Phra Nang Nai), Railay — A lit walkway through a limestone cavern at the northern end of Railay East.
- Phra Nang Cave Beach, Railay — The finest beach on the peninsula, under a huge overhanging cliff, with the princess shrine at its far end.
- Railay Viewpoint and Lagoon (Sa Phra Nang) — A short, very steep scramble above Phra Nang to a viewpoint over both sides of the peninsula, and a hidden lagoon below it.
- Tonsai Bay, Railay — The climbers' bay north of Railay West, cheaper and rougher, under some of Thailand's hardest routes.
