Wat Phu Khao Noi, Koh Phangan
Wat Phu Khao Noi sits on a small hill inland from Thong Sala, Koh Phangan's main town and ferry port, and is generally held to be the oldest temple on the island. The old chedi is the historic part of the site; the surrounding buildings are later.
It is a quiet, working temple rather than a visitor attraction, which is much of its appeal on an island better known for its beaches. The hill gives a view back over Thong Sala and the bay.
Monks live and study here, so visits should be low-key: covered shoulders and knees, shoes off inside, and no visiting during services.
