Khao Mai Kaew Cave, Koh Lanta
Khao Mai Kaew is a cave system in the hills at the centre of Koh Lanta, reached by a walk of twenty to thirty minutes through rubber plantation and forest from the road. It is not a lit walkway: visits go with a local guide, by torch, and involve climbing over rock and squeezing through low sections.
Inside are large chambers with stalactites and flowstone, a chimney to climb down on a rope ladder, and a cold pool at the bottom that can be swum in.
Wear clothes you do not mind ruining and shoes with grip - it is muddy and slippery throughout. It is unsuitable for young children, anyone with mobility difficulty, and anyone uneasy in confined dark spaces.
- Bakantiang Beach (Ba Kan Tiang), Koh Lanta — A sheltered horseshoe bay near the island's southern end, and one of Lanta's best for swimming.
- Kaw Kwang Beach, Koh Lanta — The beach on the headland north of Saladan, looking across the channel to Koh Lanta Noi.
- Khlong Chak Waterfall, Koh Lanta — A jungle waterfall in the island's south-east, reached by a walk upstream - and dry outside the wet season.
- Klong Dao Beach, Koh Lanta — The first beach south of the pier, wide and shallow, and the island's most family-friendly.
- Klong Khong Beach, Koh Lanta — A rocky, laid-back beach mid-island, known for its bars and its sunsets rather than its swimming.
- Klong Nin Beach, Koh Lanta — A long sandy beach in the quieter south, with clear water and a small village behind it.
