Koh Mook Information
About Koh Mook
Koh Mook also referred to as “Koh Muk” is a piece from paradise, this small island is located in the southern Andaman coast in the south of Thailand. The Thai word “Muk” means pearl, so the island is called “Pearl Island”.
The majority of the population on pearl island is Thai-Muslim and the main and almost the only industry on Muk is tourism. Koh Muk is a fine alternative to the more busy islands in the Andaman Sea.
Because tourism is the island's main industry, life on Koh Mook is built around the arrival and departure of boats. That makes planning your transport the most important part of your trip, and it is worth booking your seat before you travel rather than after you arrive.
How to get to Koh Mook
Koh Mook is reached by boat from the mainland and from neighbouring Andaman islands. There are currently 59 routes bookable routes serving the island, so most travellers can find a connection that fits their itinerary on the day they want to travel.
Prices start from ฿300, depending on the route you choose, the operator and how far in advance you book. Use the search box to compare the options available for your travel date.
Operators serving Koh Mook
Several companies run services to and from the island, including Bundhaya Speed Boat, Lanta Petpailin and Satun Pakbara Speed Boat Club. Each operator covers a different set of connections, so the choice of company usually follows from the route you need rather than the other way round.
Once you select a departure, you will see the several operators handling that service along with the travel time and the conditions that apply to your ticket.
Popular routes to and from Koh Mook
Koh Mook sits within easy reach of the wider Andaman island chain and the Krabi and Satun coastlines. Frequently searched connections include:
- Ao Nang – a popular beach base near Krabi, useful if you are combining the island with the mainland.
- Koh Lanta – one of the closest larger islands and a common stop when island hopping north.
- Koh Kradan – a neighbouring Trang island, often visited on the same trip.
- Koh Lipe – the main island of the far southern Andaman, towards the Malaysian border.
- Koh Bulon – a quiet island between Koh Mook and Koh Lipe.
- Koh Jum – a small, low-key island to the north.
In total the island connects to these destinations and 7 more, so it works well as one link in a longer island-hopping chain rather than a dead end.
Building an island-hopping route
Many travellers arrive from one island and continue to the next. Heading north, the Koh Lanta ferry connections open up onward travel towards Krabi and Phuket. Heading south, boats to Koh Lipe continue towards Satun and the Malaysian border. If you want to stay in the Trang island group, Koh Kradan transfers are a short hop away.
Ports and arrival points
Koh Mook is served by small island piers rather than a large terminal, and some services drop passengers directly on the beach by longtail or speedboat transfer. The exact pier or pick-up point for your journey is shown on your ticket after booking, so check it before you set out.
If your journey involves a mainland leg, your ticket will also confirm the departure point and the reporting time. Arrive early enough to check in, as boat departures on this coast do not wait.
Practical travel information
A few things worth knowing before you travel to Koh Mook:
- Book ahead in high season. The island is small and seats on popular connections sell out, especially around holidays.
- Travel light where you can. Boats and transfer vehicles have limited luggage space, and some arrivals involve stepping onto a beach or a small pier.
- Check the season. Andaman coast schedules vary through the year, and services on some routes are reduced or suspended outside the main season. Search your date to see what is actually running.
- Allow buffer time for connections. If you have a flight or an onward booking, leave a comfortable gap rather than a tight one.
- Bring cash. As a small island where tourism is the main industry, card acceptance is limited outside larger resorts.
What to see and do on Koh Mook
The island's best-known attraction is the Emerald Cave, reached by swimming or paddling through a sea tunnel that opens into a hidden beach ringed by cliffs. Most visitors reach it by longtail boat from the island.
Beyond that, Koh Mook is about slow days: quiet west-facing beaches, sunsets over the Andaman Sea, and a small local village where the Thai-Muslim community lives. Nearby islands are close enough for day trips by boat, which is part of why the island suits travellers who want a calmer base than the busier Andaman destinations.
Please dress modestly away from the beaches out of respect for the island's Muslim community — a small courtesy that is always appreciated.

Koh Mook Highlights
Diving
Diving is one of the most popular activities around most of Thailand’s islands. The first diving site in Koh Mook is where underwater marriage ceremonies were first held. The second one is called Koh Mah and it is a horse-shaped island which its water contains coral and seaweed. The third one is Koh Chueak which is a group of two small islands with water moving quickly between them, so you should hang on tight to your tour guide’s rope while admiring the colorful fish and reefs.
Kayaking
Kayaking is a fun sport for all ages, especially if you’re surrounded by beautiful sceneries. Tom Yai Bay is an amazing spot for kayaking because of the gentle waters. This bay is also where Tham Morakot and Farang beach are located so you can kayak your way through the passage to Tham Morakot if the tide is low, or you can spot the beautiful coral reefs from your boat. You can rent a kayak from Farang beach or Swasdee resort and Charlie Beach resort.

What are the tourist seasons ?
Phuket Ferry :
Phuket really just has two seasons, which are known as "high season" and "low season" (or "green season"). During the low season months (May- September), boat numbers are reduced. During the high season (October - April), boats to the surrounding islands are increased so you will have some more options.
Ferry Samui :
There are three distinct weather seasons on the tropical island of Koh Samui: the dry season (December until February), the hot season (March until August) and the rainy season (September until November).
Bali Ferry :
Bali actually has a variety of tourist periods, notably around the Balinese New Year, 15 December - 15 January, and 1 June - 30 September. During these high traffic periods, boats to the surrounding islands are increased so you will have some more options. The quieter periods are between 16 January - 30 April and 1 October - 14 December historically.
Will bad weather affect my travels?
Ferries are large and can usually operate in the rain, except in extremely bad weather. During storms or strong winds, the journey may take a little longer than usual.
Speedboats are more likely to be canceled than ferries. If a trip is canceled due to bad weather, you can choose to receive a refund or reschedule. Please note that refunds for bad weather are only issued if the ferry operator cancels the trip.
On rough days, we recommend bringing motion sickness medication and taking it about 20 minutes before boarding if you are prone to seasickness. Boat staff may also provide Dramamine upon request, but you will need to remain indoors during rough conditions. On sunny and calm days, the sun deck is open for passengers to enjoy the weather.
What's the boarding process on the day of my trip?
At the pier named on your ticket, look for the staff of the ferry operator listed on your ticket as well. Please present your e-ticket (QR code) from your phone or other device—they’ll provide you with a sticker and/or boarding pass and direct you to your boat. Most piers have staff available to help load your luggage. In Koh Samui, staff are usually stationed at booths near the boarding area; at other locations, they’re typically near the boats, wearing their company uniforms.
When will I receive my ticket confirmation?
After completing your online booking, your reservation will remain in “Pending” status until it is processed. Once confirmed, we will send your e-ticket via email. The process is usually very quick.
On the day of travel, please present your e-ticket to the ferry staff at the relevant booking counter. If you do not receive your confirmation within 24 hours, contact us immediately.
What are the baggage allowances?
Your ferry e-ticket includes ferry transport, baggage fees, and handling. The free baggage allowance per person is 20–25 kg, depending on the operator. If your baggage exceeds this limit, you can pay the extra fee directly to the ferry operator in cash.
To check the baggage allowance for your specific trip, please refer to the trip details for your selected route.
