Nai Harn occupies a rounded bay near Phuket's southern tip. What makes it unusual is what is behind it: a freshwater lagoon and the grounds of a Buddhist monastery, which between them prevented the strip of hotels that fills the space behind Patong and Karon.
The result is one of the best-regarded beaches on the island - clear water, a proper curve of sand, and yacht moorings out in the bay in the dry season. It is popular with residents as much as visitors.
Promthep Cape is fifteen minutes away by road, and the small Ao Sane beach is over the rocks to the north-west. Currents can be strong in the monsoon; the flags apply.
