Sairee Beach, Koh Tao
Sairee is Koh Tao's longest beach - close to two kilometres of west-facing sand running north from Mae Haad - and the centre of island life. A footpath threads behind it past dive schools, restaurants, bars and shops, and most visitors to Koh Tao stay within walking distance of it.
Because it faces west it takes the sunset directly, with Koh Nang Yuan visible offshore to the north. The swimming is gentle and the sand shelves slowly, which is why it suits families as well as the dive crowd. Boats moor off the northern end.
It is the busiest place on the island and makes no pretence otherwise; the quieter bays are a short ride east or south.
