Statue of King Ananda Mahidol (Rama VIII)

King Ananda Mahidol, Rama VIII, reigned from 1935 and died in 1946; he was the elder brother of King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who succeeded him. The memorial statue stands in the small riverside park beneath the Rama VIII Bridge, which was named in his honour.

The park is a quiet public space on the Chao Phraya, used in the early morning and evening by joggers and families, with the span of the bridge overhead and the river traffic in front. Visitors are asked to dress and behave respectfully at the memorial, as at any Thai royal monument.
