Koh Lipe Information
Koh Lipe is a Thai island known for its coral-rich waters and the beautiful beaches. It’s located south of Thailand and can be accessed from different places either by plane, ferry, minivan, or bus. The easiest and cheapest way to reach Koh Lipe from Bangkok is to Fly to the Hat Yai airport which is the nearest airport to the island. Then take a bus to Pak Bara Pier, to take a ferry to Koh Lipe. The train takes 15 hours from Bangkok or you can take a 13 hour trip by bus to Hat Yai to take a minivan/taxi to Pak Bara Pier. You can travel to Koh Lipe through Pak Bara Pier as it’s the only pier that is available any time of the year. The other roads are closed during monsoon season. From Krabi/Ao Nang, you can take a minivan to Trang Province then hop on a 2-hour ferry trip to Koh Lipe. From Phuket, Koh Phi Phi, and Koh Lanta the ferry is your only option.

Koh Lipe: a small island near the Malaysia border
Koh Lipe is an “ L-shaped” island. Located near the Malaysia/Thailand border. It is originally inhabited by sea gypsies. The island sits in Thailand's far south, on the edge of the Tarutao National Marine Park, and it is small enough to cross on foot in well under an hour.
The island is famous for scuba diving, snorkeling, and its coral reefs are very easy to reach. Because the reefs start just off the sand, you don't need a boat trip or a certification to see fish and coral — a mask and fins are often enough.
Koh Lipe has a handful of mid-range and budget resorts, accommodation options vary from bamboo bungalows to four stars resorts. There are 3 main beaches in Koh Lipe “Sunrise, Sunset, and Pattaya”. The island has a wide selection of bars, although if you're looking for a party island, Koh Lipe is not for you as it's nothing like Koh Phangan or Koh Phi Phi.
How to get to Koh Lipe

Travellers arriving from further away usually build the trip in two stages: reach a southern Thai hub or a nearby island first, then continue on the connecting service to Koh Lipe. Many of these combinations can be booked as a single journey, so you don't have to buy each leg separately.
Arriving on the island
Koh Lipe has no deep-water pier. Boats normally stop offshore and passengers transfer to the beach by longtail, which means a short extra step and a small local fee paid on arrival. Pack so that your bag can handle a brief, damp transfer, and keep passports and electronics in something waterproof.
Where you can travel to and from
Koh Lipe connects to Ao Nang, Hat Yai, Koh Bulon, Koh Jum, Koh Kradan, Koh Lanta and 12 more destinations. That mix covers both mainland gateways and the island-hopping chain along the Andaman coast, so the island works well either as a first stop or as the final one in a longer trip.
- Hat Yai — the main southern transport hub, useful if you are arriving by long-distance road or rail, or heading on towards Malaysia.
- Koh Lanta and Koh Jum — northbound island stops that let you continue up the Andaman coast without returning to the mainland.
- Ao Nang — the Krabi-area beach gateway, handy for connecting onward to Krabi town and its airport.
- Koh Kradan and Koh Bulon — quieter neighbours often combined with Koh Lipe on an island-hopping itinerary.

Practical travel information
A few things are worth knowing before you commit to dates:
- Seasonality. Sea services in this part of the Andaman are weather-dependent, and availability can thin out during the monsoon months. Search your exact dates to confirm what is actually running.
- Immigration. Koh Lipe sits close to the Malaysian border and has its own immigration checkpoint used by cross-border arrivals and departures. Carry your passport, not a copy.
- National park fee. The island lies within a marine park area, and a park fee is collected locally on arrival. It is separate from your ticket.
- Getting around. There are no cars. Walking Street links the main beaches on foot, and longtail boats handle the rest.
- Cash. ATM access is limited compared with the mainland, so bring enough baht for local fees, food and boat hire.
What to do on Koh Lipe
Diving and snorkelling are the main draw, with dive sites reachable on short boat trips and reefs you can swim to directly from shore. Longtail hire for a half-day snorkelling loop around the surrounding islands is easy to arrange on the beach.
Beyond the water, the three main beaches each have a different character: Sunrise for early light and calmer swimming, Sunset for the view at the end of the day, and Pattaya for the busiest stretch of sand and the closest concentration of bars and restaurants. Walking Street, which cuts across the island, is where most of the evening eating and drinking happens.

What are the tourist seasons ?
Phuket Ferry :
Phuket really just has two seasons, which are known as "high season" and "low season" (or "green season"). During the low season months (May- September), boat numbers are reduced. During the high season (October - April), boats to the surrounding islands are increased so you will have some more options.
Ferry Samui :
There are three distinct weather seasons on the tropical island of Koh Samui: the dry season (December until February), the hot season (March until August) and the rainy season (September until November).
Bali Ferry :
Bali actually has a variety of tourist periods, notably around the Balinese New Year, 15 December - 15 January, and 1 June - 30 September. During these high traffic periods, boats to the surrounding islands are increased so you will have some more options. The quieter periods are between 16 January - 30 April and 1 October - 14 December historically.
Will bad weather affect my travels?
Ferries are large and can usually operate in the rain, except in extremely bad weather. During storms or strong winds, the journey may take a little longer than usual.
Speedboats are more likely to be canceled than ferries. If a trip is canceled due to bad weather, you can choose to receive a refund or reschedule. Please note that refunds for bad weather are only issued if the ferry operator cancels the trip.
On rough days, we recommend bringing motion sickness medication and taking it about 20 minutes before boarding if you are prone to seasickness. Boat staff may also provide Dramamine upon request, but you will need to remain indoors during rough conditions. On sunny and calm days, the sun deck is open for passengers to enjoy the weather.
What's the boarding process on the day of my trip?
At the pier named on your ticket, look for the staff of the ferry operator listed on your ticket as well. Please present your e-ticket (QR code) from your phone or other device—they’ll provide you with a sticker and/or boarding pass and direct you to your boat. Most piers have staff available to help load your luggage. In Koh Samui, staff are usually stationed at booths near the boarding area; at other locations, they’re typically near the boats, wearing their company uniforms.
When will I receive my ticket confirmation?
After completing your online booking, your reservation will remain in “Pending” status until it is processed. Once confirmed, we will send your e-ticket via email. The process is usually very quick.
On the day of travel, please present your e-ticket to the ferry staff at the relevant booking counter. If you do not receive your confirmation within 24 hours, contact us immediately.
What are the baggage allowances?
Your ferry e-ticket includes ferry transport, baggage fees, and handling. The free baggage allowance per person is 20–25 kg, depending on the operator. If your baggage exceeds this limit, you can pay the extra fee directly to the ferry operator in cash.
