A small national museum devoted to Corrado Feroci — Silpa Bhirasri — the Italian sculptor regarded as the father of modern Thai art.
Silp Bhirasri National Museum
Corrado Feroci arrived in Siam from Florence in 1923 as a court sculptor, took Thai citizenship and the name Silpa Bhirasri, and founded the school that became Silpakorn University. He designed several of Bangkok's best-known public monuments, and the generation of Thai artists he taught defined modern art in the country — which is why he is commonly called its father.
This small national museum gathers his sculptures, drawings, tools and personal effects, together with work by his students. It is modest in scale and quiet, and it makes most sense alongside the Silpakorn campus and galleries nearby in the Rattanakosin area.
