Phuket Information
Phuket: the Pearl of the Andaman
Phuket is lovingly referred to as the "Pearl of the Andaman". It really is a pearl of great price, and is now a major tropical island destination. Phuket has a very distinctive culture and a rich history that has brought the nations to its shores in search of both wealth and peace. It's no wonder that Phuket is first on the list of so many global tourists and travellers.
Encountering Phuket from the outside-in, the beaches are beautiful and filled with activity, yet search a little and you'll find lots of secluded bays with great snorkeling conditions. Making your way over hilly terrain and you'll find all kinds fun things to do and places to go. Shopping in Phuket is a joy, eating is an adventure, and there are all kinds of amazing markets with their sights, sounds and smells to capture your attention and imagination!
How to get to Phuket
Phuket is one of the best-connected places in southern Thailand, and travelling there is straightforward once you know which link you need. Our booking system currently lists 216 routes bookable routes to and from Phuket, so most travellers can go door to door on a single search.
Because Phuket sits at the centre of the Andaman coast, it works well as both a starting point and a finishing point. Many people arrive from the islands after a few days of beach-hopping, while others use Phuket as the base from which they head out to quieter destinations further south.
Journey options, departure times and prices vary by day and by season, so check the live results for your travel date before you plan the rest of your itinerary.
Ports and departure points
Phuket has several piers and pick-up points rather than one single terminal, and the one you use depends on the route you book. Your ticket and confirmation will show the exact departure point for your service, so read it carefully — piers on the island can be a fair distance apart, and turning up at the wrong one is the most common travel mistake here.
If a route includes a transfer to or from your accommodation, the pick-up window and meeting point are shown at the time of booking. Check the details on your chosen route page before you confirm.
Where you can travel to and from Phuket
Phuket connects to Ao Nang, Donsak, Koh Bulon, Koh Jum, Koh Kradan, Koh Lanta and 13 more destinations. That mix covers the busy mainland beach towns, the small quiet islands, and the mainland pier towns that open up onward travel across the country.
- Ao Nang — a popular mainland beach base on the Krabi coast and a common first hop from Phuket.
- Koh Lanta — a long, laid-back island that pairs naturally with a Phuket stay.
- Koh Jum — a smaller, quieter island stop between Phuket and Lanta.
- Koh Kradan — one of the Trang islands, known for its beaches and clear water.
- Koh Bulon — a small island further south for travellers heading down the coast.
- Donsak — a mainland pier town that links the Andaman side with onward travel.
Compare the Phuket to Koh Lanta route and the Phuket to Ao Nang route to see which fits your dates, or open the full list of Phuket connections to see all of them side by side.
Operators serving Phuket
Several companies run services to and from the island, including Andaman Wave Master, Ao Nang Travel and Tour Co.,Ltd. and Bundhaya Speed Boat. Each operator sets its own timetable, luggage allowance and boarding rules, so the several operators shown on your search result is the one whose conditions apply to your trip.
Where more than one operator covers the same connection, the results page lets you compare them on departure time, duration and price, and book the one that suits you from ฿300.
Practical travel information
A few things are worth knowing before you travel to or from Phuket:
- Arrive early. Check-in usually closes before departure, and island services do not wait for late passengers.
- Bring ID. Passport details are often required at check-in, and names on tickets should match your travel documents.
- Pack light for small boats. Luggage space is limited on smaller vessels, and bags may be stowed away from passengers.
- Watch the seasons. Sea conditions on the Andaman coast change through the year, and timetables are often reduced or adjusted outside the high season.
- Book ahead in peak months. Popular island connections fill quickly, especially around holidays.
Cancellation and change conditions differ by operator and fare, so read the booking conditions shown on your route before you pay.
What to see and do in Phuket
Beyond the beaches, Phuket rewards anyone willing to explore inland. The island's old town is the clearest reminder of its trading past, with shophouse architecture that reflects the mix of cultures drawn here over the centuries.
Food is a highlight in its own right, from street stalls to the night markets. Add a snorkelling trip to one of the quieter bays and a day trip out to a neighbouring island, and a few days in Phuket fill themselves easily.

What are the tourist seasons ?
Phuket Ferry :
Phuket really just has two seasons, which are known as "high season" and "low season" (or "green season"). During the low season months (May- September), boat numbers are reduced. During the high season (October - April), boats to the surrounding islands are increased so you will have some more options.
Ferry Samui :
There are three distinct weather seasons on the tropical island of Koh Samui: the dry season (December until February), the hot season (March until August) and the rainy season (September until November).
Bali Ferry :
Bali actually has a variety of tourist periods, notably around the Balinese New Year, 15 December - 15 January, and 1 June - 30 September. During these high traffic periods, boats to the surrounding islands are increased so you will have some more options. The quieter periods are between 16 January - 30 April and 1 October - 14 December historically.
Will bad weather affect my travels?
Ferries are large and can usually operate in the rain, except in extremely bad weather. During storms or strong winds, the journey may take a little longer than usual.
Speedboats are more likely to be canceled than ferries. If a trip is canceled due to bad weather, you can choose to receive a refund or reschedule. Please note that refunds for bad weather are only issued if the ferry operator cancels the trip.
On rough days, we recommend bringing motion sickness medication and taking it about 20 minutes before boarding if you are prone to seasickness. Boat staff may also provide Dramamine upon request, but you will need to remain indoors during rough conditions. On sunny and calm days, the sun deck is open for passengers to enjoy the weather.
What's the boarding process on the day of my trip?
At the pier named on your ticket, look for the staff of the ferry operator listed on your ticket as well. Please present your e-ticket (QR code) from your phone or other device—they’ll provide you with a sticker and/or boarding pass and direct you to your boat. Most piers have staff available to help load your luggage. In Koh Samui, staff are usually stationed at booths near the boarding area; at other locations, they’re typically near the boats, wearing their company uniforms.
When will I receive my ticket confirmation?
After completing your online booking, your reservation will remain in “Pending” status until it is processed. Once confirmed, we will send your e-ticket via email. The process is usually very quick.
On the day of travel, please present your e-ticket to the ferry staff at the relevant booking counter. If you do not receive your confirmation within 24 hours, contact us immediately.
What are the baggage allowances?
Your ferry e-ticket includes ferry transport, baggage fees, and handling. The free baggage allowance per person is 20–25 kg, depending on the operator. If your baggage exceeds this limit, you can pay the extra fee directly to the ferry operator in cash.
To check the baggage allowance for your specific trip, please refer to the trip details for your selected route.
